Michael Mickelson

Practice Philosophy

Michael approaches each case in a comprehensive manner.  He understands that there is much more to a case than the letter of the law or a four-hour trial.  Seemingly subtle details, from the demeanor of a key witness to the tone of a client’s communication with the opposing party, can be the difference between success and failure.  Keeping that in mind, Michael embraces his role not only as an advocate, but also as an advisor and legal counselor.

Michael grew up in Yakima, Washington.  He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish in 2011.  He attended law school at Willamette University College of Law in Salem and graduated in 2015.

After passing the Oregon State Bar in 2015, he began working for Marion-Polk Legal Aid under a domestic violence grant.  As a domestic violence attorney, Michael only represented survivors of domestic violence. He began building his own caseload almost immediately, representing clients in a wide range of family law cases and obtaining significant courtroom experience.

Michael’s experience in family law includes cases involving stalking protective orders, defending and obtaining restraining orders under the Family Abuse Prevention Act, divorce, custody, parenting time, child support, spousal support, division of assets, and modifications of custody and parenting time.  As an attorney for Legal Aid Services of Oregon, Michael handled all aspects of his cases, from intake through issuance of a final judgment. He has represented English and Spanish-speaking clients in numerous trials and hearings and is comfortable in all aspects of a family law case.

Hobbies and Interests

When he’s not assisting clients, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, exploring the great outdoors, exercising, participating in his local church congregation, and attempting to play golf at any one of the fine golf courses in the Eugene/Springfield area.
